Creating From Your Heart

What deeply nurtures us in each and every moment?

What allows us to be true to our Selves rather than to our fears with each action we take and each word we speak?

What supports us to daily stay the course on the path we have chosen when we are barraged with advice, judgments, and beliefs from "experts," friends or loved ones, urging us to abandon what fulfills our true nature?

What can we draw on for sustenance when we feel the seductive whispers of our past inner conditioning urging us to give up our present "risky foolishness" and return to the tried-and-true safety of the familiar and predictable in order to remain undisturbed?

What provides us with the grounding to weather the always-changing circumstances, surprises, breakdowns, mistakes, perceived failures, and attacks of hubris that may occur on our journey?

What keeps us centered in joy, freedom and gratitude?

To answer these questions requires us to draw on our essential, core wisdom.

In Shakespeare's play, "Hamlet," Polonius's words to Horatio still resonate with the essential truth upon which a life of true freedom and creativity can be lived every day of every year:

"To thine own Self be true.
    Than it shall follow,
    as the night the day,
thou cans't not be false to any man."

To be true to our Self, to draw on and be guided by our core wisdom, requires us to come from our Heart ---our essential nature. By Heart, I do not mean our transient emotions and feelings. These can be expressions of our heart, our mind or our inherited conditioning. I mean Heart in the sense that it is used in all the Wisdom traditions, as the unchanging center of our Being. It is the Silence that gives all sound, the Formless that gives all form. It is the Source of our creativity. It is the access to our intuition, the small voice of Truth within. It is the Light from which Joy, Compassion and Unconditional Love flow into the world. It is our true "home."

When our Heart is in the service of our mind, its infinite power and love are asleep or diminished, and we feel separate from others, the universe and our true Self. We are under the control of the dual demons of greed and fear, striving non-stop to fulfill the never ending needs to be non-disturbed, avoid pain, gain comfort, be approved of, avoid rejection, gain control and avoid being controlled.

When our mind is in the service of our Heart, we have at our disposal a powerful synthesis of intellect, intuition and imagination with which to create our lives. We experience ourselves as one with others and the universe, and are open to the flow of creation.

This is what makes answering the question, "Who Am I?" the essential question to answer through direct experience in the Core Wisdom programs. It is what makes creating and living from your Created Life Principle the key that organizes all aspects of your life--physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually--to be in resonance with your true Self.

As you create each day of this year, I invite you to do so from your Heart.

Begin your morning with thanks and gratitude for the gift of life.

For those of you who have participated in Core Wisdom, I strongly recommend that you begin your day with the "Create the Day," practice, being filled with the Presence of your true nature and your Life Principle. End each day with your version of the "Complete the Day" practice, carrying nothing over into the future other than your Self, your love, and your capacity to create. Those who do these as regular practices have reported a clear and present unfolding of flow, creativity and grace in their lives.

When you are in doubt of what course of action to follow, stop for a moment, go within, and ask yourself, "Does this action resonate with my Life Principle?" Then listen to your inner wisdom, and trust it.

If you have not yet participated in Core Wisdom, begin your day with a few moments of silence, meditation or prayer, whatever feels right for you or your present practice. Open yourself to receive the Divine Presence of your true, unchanging nature. Listen to the inner voice of your true Self. It is your Core Wisdom. It can transform your life.
