The Wisdom of Embracing What Is

The days of January 17th through January 19, 2003 were a remarkable time for me.

It was the first Core Wisdom 3-Day Course of 2003, and I was privileged to be present as course participants released the limiting beliefs and judgments, conditioned behaviors, negative emotions, and past traumas that had blocked them from their direct experience of their true nature. Issues that people had been enduring for decades, fears that they had strived to overcome for years, dissolved within minutes.

What remained was the limitless Self --- the "Infinite I." What was present was BEING. Love, compassion, joy, and freedom were present --- all expressions of our natural state when we are awakened from our identification with the False Self; the limited "Finite Me."

By shining the Light of Awareness on their lives, they had released years of constricting patterns, and found themselves present to the "Peace that passeth understanding."

The design and shape of our lives are expressions of one thing only ---- our very BEING, and that BEING that we are, when aware of its true nature, expresses itself in 3 dynamics:

CREATING from the formless into form

ACCEPTANCE of what is (embracing the form that has been manifested)

DISSOLVING the manifested form back to the formless (Transmutation)

As participants released the past, and made room for a new future to unfold, I was aware, more than ever, that ACCEPTANCE, the ability to "Embrace What Is," is the doorway to Freedom.

Many people think Acceptance is a polite way of saying, "grin and bear it," or another way of saying, "tolerate it." Nothing could be further from the truth. Acceptance is not about putting up with something or enduring it. Acceptance also does not have anything to do with "liking" or "wanting," something or someone. Acceptance is not present when we hold onto our ideals and expectations of the way persons, things, or events "should" and "should not" be.

Acceptance is the ability to "Embrace What Is," without adding, subtracting, or denying anything.

Acceptance of "what is" is the first step in the process of dissolving the beliefs, emotions, thoughts, and past images that constrain the joyous flow of our natural creativity and Self-expression.

Anything that we cannot BE with, we are stuck with.

One of the key Core Wisdom operating principles is, "Resistance Causes Persistence." The more we resist something --- an idea, a feeling, a thought, an event--- the more energy and mass we give it, and the more we are stuck with it.

Example #1: if a person resists being like their parents, they often end up with a life being guided by "NOT like my parents." That means whatever way he or she perceives their parents to be, including what they do, and what they have, becomes the guiding principle of life in reverse. Life is about "NOT that." They are so busy living in reaction to what they are resisting, that they have no room to find their own authentic Self-expression.

Example #2: People who resist feeling fear, end up with the fear stuck in their mind/body energy field rather than released. In addition, they are stuck with a pretense of not being afraid over the top of the fear. The fear remains, as an ever-present shadow in the background of their lives.

When we acknowledge and embrace what is, without adding judgments, evaluations or stories to it, we have thrown open the door to releasing what no longer serves us. We can then allow for transmutation to occur ---- the form dissolving back to the formless.

What is left is the SELF, and the freedom to create newly in the next moment of NOW."

Acceptance itself creates miracles. It allows for things that are stuck to start dissolving spontaneously. It opens up the flow of creativity. To live from Acceptance is to live with an Open Heart, embracing others, the world and your Self. Then your life is a full expression of Unconditional Love, Joy and Compassion.
